ADNOC is leveraging lessons from U.S. shale development to progress its Diyab unconventional gas play in the UAE. During the URTeC 2026 conference, company executives detailed how they are applying advanced subsurface understanding, drilling, and completions
technology to transition from appraisal to early development. The initiative involves integrating seismic, reservoir, and operational data to optimize well spacing and improve landing point selection. The Turnwell joint venture, formed by ADNOC Drilling, SLB, and Patterson-UTI, has been instrumental in this process, having drilled 125 wells and completed 85 since its inception in 2024. The project adapts North American practices to local conditions, focusing on water management in the desert environment and reducing development costs through innovations in proppant and frac chemistry.
