This expansion aligns with CBRE's strategic objective to build a global infrastructure services business that complements its core real estate services. The company is focusing on areas with long-term demand growth, such as data centers and other critical infrastructure, to build resilient businesses that benefit from secular tailwinds. The addition of Onnec is projected to contribute to CBRE's Critical Infrastructure Services business, which is expected to generate nearly $4.5 billion in total revenue by 2027, with the broader infrastructure services businesses potentially reaching nearly $7 billion in revenue next year.

The combined entity will likely focus on leveraging Onnec's expertise in network, fiber, and data center infrastructure to meet the growing demands of hyperscale technology companies globally, further solidifying CBRE's position in the critical infrastructure market.
Beyond the Headlines
The acquisition of Onnec by CBRE highlights a broader trend in the commercial real estate and services sector: the increasing convergence of physical infrastructure with digital and technological services. As data centers become more critical to the global economy, companies like CBRE are strategically investing in capabilities that extend beyond traditional real estate management to encompass the complex technical infrastructure within these facilities. This move reflects a recognition that the value proposition for clients now includes not just the physical space but also the intricate network and data management systems that power modern businesses. This trend could lead to a more integrated service model in the industry, where real estate firms offer end-to-end solutions for critical infrastructure, from site selection and construction to ongoing maintenance and technological support.
