What's Happening?
Austral Resources Australia has announced the discovery of a blind copper system at the Canyon prospect, located near its Mt Kelly facility in Queensland. The maiden drilling intersected copper oxide mineralization over a 1.2km strike extent. Significant
assay results include 24m at 1.03% copper and 57m at 0.44% copper. The discovery is notable for its proximity to existing infrastructure, which could reduce the need for new processing facilities. Austral plans follow-up drilling to define the mineral system's dimensions and test continuity between different areas of the Canyon prospect. The company will also conduct metallurgical testwork to assess recovery characteristics.
Why It's Important?
This discovery is crucial for Austral Resources as it supports the company's strategy to expand its copper inventory around existing infrastructure, potentially reducing costs and increasing efficiency. The proximity of the Canyon prospect to Mt Kelly infrastructure offers a strategic advantage, allowing Austral to leverage existing facilities. The planned follow-up drilling and metallurgical testwork could further enhance the prospect's value, providing insights into the system's potential for higher-grade zones. This development is significant for the copper industry, as it highlights the potential for new discoveries in established mining regions.
