What's Happening?
CoComply, a RegTech scale-up based in Macclesfield, has successfully raised £1.9 million in funding. This investment is earmarked to accelerate the development of its AI-native platform, which is designed to help organizations manage compliance risks
associated with their external workforce. The funding round saw participation from NPIF II – Mercia Equity Finance, Haatch, and several technology and business investors, including Richard Law, former chief executive of GBG, who will also join as chair. The platform assists mid-market and large organizations in identifying external workers, including those embedded within supplier contracts, and determining the necessary compliance checks. CoComply reported a 240% revenue growth in 2025 and projects over 120% growth in 2026. Its client roster includes notable names such as Aston Martin, Take-Two, RS Group, Thredd, Quint Group, Dementia UK, and the Royal Yachting Association.
Why It's Important?
This investment highlights a growing recognition of the complexities and risks associated with managing an external workforce in the U.S. and globally. As companies increasingly rely on contractors, freelancers, and outsourced services, ensuring compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and internal policies becomes a significant challenge. CoComply's AI-native platform addresses this by providing much-needed visibility and control, which can mitigate legal and financial risks for businesses. The ability to uncover 'hidden' workers within supplier contracts is particularly crucial, as misclassification or lack of oversight can lead to substantial penalties and reputational damage. For U.S. businesses, this technology can help navigate the intricate landscape of state and federal employment laws, reducing the burden on HR and legal departments and fostering more secure and compliant operational practices.
What's Next?
The newly secured funding will be channeled into accelerating product development and expanding CoComply's sales, marketing, and delivery capabilities. This suggests an imminent push to enhance the platform's features and reach a broader market, potentially including further expansion into the U.S. market. With Richard Law, a seasoned executive, joining as chair, the company is likely to benefit from strategic guidance in scaling its operations and market penetration. The focus on product development indicates that CoComply will continue to refine its AI capabilities to offer more sophisticated solutions for workforce compliance, potentially integrating with other HR and procurement systems. Businesses can anticipate more robust tools for managing their external workforce, leading to improved compliance and operational efficiency.
Beyond the Headlines
The rise of platforms like CoComply underscores a broader shift in how businesses perceive and manage their workforce, particularly the growing segment of external workers. This trend reflects the increasing gig economy and the strategic use of flexible talent, which, while offering agility, also introduces new compliance challenges. The ethical implications of 'hidden' workers and the need for transparency in supply chains are becoming more prominent. CoComply's solution not only addresses regulatory compliance but also contributes to a more ethical and accountable approach to workforce management. This development could set new industry standards for how organizations track and verify the status of all individuals contributing to their operations, potentially influencing future regulatory frameworks and corporate governance practices in the U.S. and beyond.
