What's Happening?
SeatGeek has entered into a multiyear agreement to become the founding partner and official ticketing partner for the Minnesota Forge, a professional women's volleyball team. This partnership marks SeatGeek's first venture with a volleyball organization
and is the first of its kind in Major League Volleyball history. The Minnesota Forge is set to debut in January 2027 and will play its home matches at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul. Michelle Haines, the team's president, emphasized the significance of having a national brand like SeatGeek invest deeply in the franchise before its inaugural match, reinforcing the team's vision. Danielle Short, SeatGeek's head of client success and entertainment, stated that the company aims to help the Forge cultivate a dedicated fan base and establish itself as a prominent fixture in Minnesota's sports landscape. The team is operated by the same group behind the Minnesota Wild, and Pedro Mendes has been appointed as the head coach and general manager.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is important for the burgeoning Major League Volleyball and the broader landscape of women's professional sports in the U.S. The deep investment from a national brand like SeatGeek provides crucial financial backing and legitimacy to a new franchise, which can be instrumental in its initial growth and long-term sustainability. For the Minnesota Forge, this deal not only secures ticketing operations but also provides a significant marketing and promotional boost, helping to build brand recognition and attract a loyal fan base. For SeatGeek, it represents an expansion into a new sports market, potentially tapping into the growing popularity of volleyball, particularly among girls in the U.S. The success of such partnerships can pave the way for more corporate investments in women's sports leagues, contributing to their professionalization and increasing their visibility and economic viability. This also highlights a trend of increasing investment in sports beyond traditional major leagues.

Beyond the Headlines
This partnership underscores a broader cultural and economic shift towards recognizing and investing in women's professional sports. The emphasis on the growing number of girls playing volleyball in the U.S. suggests a strategic move to capitalize on an untapped market and foster a new generation of fans. This investment goes beyond mere financial support; it signifies a belief in the commercial viability and entertainment value of women's volleyball. The 'deja vu' sentiment expressed by Michelle Haines, drawing parallels to the growth of the National Women's Soccer League, hints at a potential trajectory for Major League Volleyball to achieve similar levels of investment and fan engagement.
