WHOOP, a technology company focused on human performance and healthspan, is actively recruiting for an Incident Response Lead in Boston, MA. This role is critical for driving security incident response across the enterprise, serving as the primary internal
escalation point for security events. The Incident Response Lead will be responsible for hands-on incident response activities, coordinating with WHOOP’s 24x7 Security Operations Center (SOC) provider and various cross-functional stakeholders including IT, GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance), and Legal. Key responsibilities include leading incident investigations in cloud-native environments, conducting host, cloud, and log-based investigations, and maintaining and improving incident response playbooks. The position also involves leading post-incident reviews, developing tabletop exercises, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI. This is a highly technical individual contributor role with significant ownership and visibility within the company's security framework.
Why It's Important?
The recruitment of an Incident Response Lead by WHOOP underscores the increasing importance of robust cybersecurity measures within the health and fitness technology sector. As companies like WHOOP collect and process sensitive personal health data, the need for sophisticated incident response capabilities becomes paramount to protect user privacy and maintain trust. A strong incident response framework helps mitigate the financial and reputational damage that can result from data breaches and cyberattacks. For WHOOP, this role is crucial for safeguarding its technology infrastructure and user data, which are central to its mission of unlocking human performance. The emphasis on compliance with regulations like GDPR and HIPAA highlights the legal and ethical obligations associated with handling health information, making effective incident response a critical component of regulatory adherence and risk management. This investment in security personnel reflects a broader industry trend towards strengthening defenses against evolving cyber threats.
What's Next?
The successful candidate for the Incident Response Lead position will be tasked with immediately enhancing WHOOP's security posture and incident response capabilities. This will involve refining existing playbooks, integrating with the 24x7 SOC, and potentially implementing new tools and processes for threat detection and response. The role will also focus on proactive measures, such as developing and executing tabletop exercises to test and strengthen response readiness, and driving continuous improvement of detection and response capabilities across SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response), cloud monitoring, and identity systems. Internally, the new lead will work closely with GRC and Legal teams to support breach impact assessments and regulatory notification processes, ensuring WHOOP remains compliant with relevant data protection laws. This strategic hire is expected to bolster WHOOP's ability to quickly and effectively address security incidents, thereby protecting its users and its business operations.
Beyond the Headlines
