Richard Liu, founder and chairman of JD.com, has predicted that robots will eventually replace the company's approximately 700,000 delivery couriers. Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Forum, Liu expressed his belief that robotic delivery systems
are inevitable, although he expressed concern for the livelihoods of current employees. To address this, JD.com has initiated agreements with around 120 educational institutions to retrain couriers for roles in robot maintenance and related technical fields. The company is also actively testing automated delivery systems, although no specific timeline for full implementation has been provided.
