Homey, a Dutch-based smart home platform owned by LG, has launched the Homey Portal, a new touchscreen smart home controller. This device aims to simplify the management of various smart home elements, including lights, music, and climate, through a tactile
dial and customizable interface. The Homey Portal is a 2.8-inch round touchscreen device with a stainless steel dial, designed to be desk- or wall-mounted and powered by a USB-C cable. Users can tap icons to control devices and twist the dial to adjust settings like brightness, volume, and temperature. The interface adapts to the action being taken, for example, displaying light controls when the light icon is tapped. The device supports Homey’s Flow automation engine, allowing users to trigger scenes and automations. Preorders for the Homey Portal are open at an introductory price of $249, with units expected to ship in December. The device is compatible with Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, Homey Cloud, and Homey Self-Hosted Server, requiring a connection to one of these platforms to function as it is not a hub itself.
