The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) recently hosted its first International IberCup at WRAL Soccer Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, over Labor Day weekend. The event brought together 160 teams from 13 different countries for a four-day youth soccer
tournament. The competition featured multiple 7v7 mini-games daily, incorporating new rules such as an offside line, rolling substitutions, and a ban on heading, designed to increase touches, passes, and goals. Teams competed in group stages before advancing to a single-elimination knockout bracket. The tournament concluded with four teams earning trophies: Kashima Antlers (Japan) for U11 Gold, The Swag Academy (USA) for U11 Silver, SE Palmeiras (Brazil) for U12 Gold, and Revolution FC (Brazil) for U12 Silver. The event also included an International Coaches Night, where academy coaches from prominent European and South American clubs like Everton FC, Gremio, Benfica, and Athletic Bilbao participated in a roundtable discussion. Legendary coach Luis Dias also presented on his experiences leading the Sporting CP academy, including coaching Christian Ronaldo.
