A recent report by Ookla reveals that most 5G networks are not equipped to handle the demands of conversational agentic AI due to insufficient uplink speeds and high latency. The report, titled 'Beyond Download Speed: Benchmarking 5G Mobile Networks Against
AI Workloads,' indicates that while 5G networks have been optimized for download speeds, they fall short in supporting AI applications that require faster uplink speeds and lower latencies. The study surveyed 86 operators across 22 markets, finding that only a few markets have 5G networks capable of supporting text-based AI, with even fewer supporting voice and video-based AI applications.
