Inland Packaging, a Wisconsin-based manufacturer specializing in labels and packaging solutions, has successfully implemented a custom robotic automation system to address production challenges. Faced with increasing demand and labor shortages, Inland Packaging partnered
with DEVELOP, a Wisconsin-based automation company and FANUC Authorized System Integrator, to design a robotic end-of-line packaging and palletizing cell tailored to their specific production environment. This system combines packaging and palletizing functions into a compact automation cell, which fits precisely within the available space on the production floor. The system operates through a single HMI screen with intuitive visual instructions, simplifying operator training and reducing staffing requirements from two employees per line to one, while maintaining and increasing output.

By reducing the need for manual labor in physically demanding tasks, the system improves employee ergonomics and satisfaction. What's Next?
Following the successful implementation of the robotic automation system, Inland Packaging continues to work with DEVELOP engineers to optimize performance further. The original cycle time target of 4.5 seconds has already been reduced to 4.2 seconds within six months, with additional improvements anticipated. Inland Packaging plans to redeploy employees to other areas of the business where additional support is needed, leveraging the automation system to grow without adding headcount for repetitive tasks. The company aims to continue enhancing throughput, reliability, and employee satisfaction, setting a precedent for other manufacturers seeking similar solutions.
