What's Happening?
Steve Morgan Associates, a Newport-based consultancy, has secured a contract to provide civil and structural engineering services for a new battery energy storage system (BESS) facility in Dounreay, Scotland. The project, led by clean energy developer
Root-Power, is part of the UK Government's Clean Power 2030 reforms. The facility will deliver a 34-megawatt BESS to support grid stability and manage electricity supply during peak periods. Steve Morgan Associates will design the infrastructure, including foundations and drainage, and assist contractors throughout the construction process.
Why It's Important?
This contract highlights the growing importance of battery energy storage systems in supporting renewable energy integration and grid stability. As countries transition to cleaner energy sources, the demand for efficient energy storage solutions is increasing. The involvement of Steve Morgan Associates in this project underscores the role of engineering expertise in advancing energy infrastructure. The successful implementation of the Dounreay BESS facility could serve as a model for future projects, contributing to the global shift towards sustainable energy systems.
