What's Happening?
Hillgrove Resources has approved the development of the Emily Star as the third underground mining front at its Kanmantoo Copper Mine in South Australia. The project is expected to cost between $20 million and $22 million, with an additional $2.9 million already
spent on drilling and early works. The company plans to spend $6.5 million to $7.5 million during the second half of 2026. Stoping is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027 following decline development and level access establishment. Drilling has confirmed geological continuity and consistent grades, increasing confidence in the project's viability. CEO Bob Fulker highlighted the project's potential to provide an additional mining front, enhance operational flexibility, and support sustained copper production. The development will initially proceed under the existing environmental protection and rehabilitation program, with an updated program submission planned for later this year.
Why It's Important?
The approval of the Emily Star development is a strategic move for Hillgrove Resources, as it aims to strengthen its operational capabilities and ensure sustained copper production. This development is crucial for maintaining the company's competitive edge in the copper mining industry, which is vital for various industrial applications, including electronics and renewable energy technologies. The project also reflects the company's commitment to environmental management and sustainable mining practices. By increasing plant throughput and spreading fixed costs, Hillgrove aims to reduce unit all-in sustaining costs, thereby improving financial performance. The project could also have positive economic implications for the local community through job creation and increased economic activity.
What's Next?
Hillgrove Resources will focus on completing the necessary development work and securing approvals for the updated environmental program. The company will continue drilling and geotechnical work to ensure the project's success. Stakeholders, including investors and local communities, will be monitoring the project's progress and its impact on the environment and local economy. The company plans to update its mineral resources and ore reserves estimates in the December quarter, which will provide further insights into the project's potential.
