What's Happening?
Hacienda Tulum, a new high-end Mexican steakhouse, is set to open on October 15 in Long Beach, New York. This establishment is the latest venture from the team behind Tulum Tacos and Tequila in Mineola and Baldwin. Owner Nicolas Geeraerts stated the goal
is to introduce sophistication to the oceanfront dining scene. The restaurant will offer seating for 175 indoors and 50 outdoors, including a private room with a patio. Eduardo Salgado, formerly of 'Emat in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico, has been appointed as the full-time culinary director. Salgado, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, aims to showcase the broad spectrum of Mexican cuisine through the menu, which will feature dishes like Pat LaFrieda sliced rib-eye tacos and masa 'gnocchi' (chochoyotes). The decor includes furniture imported from Mexico, creating an elevated and breezy ambiance. Additionally, Hacienda Tulum will feature a taco stand with a walk-up window that opened earlier this summer and a speakeasy agave bar named Cemelle, expected to open later this year.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Hacienda Tulum signifies a notable shift in the dining landscape of Long Beach, particularly along its boardwalk. The introduction of a high-end Mexican steakhouse concept, complete with sophisticated decor and a menu curated by an experienced culinary director, elevates the culinary offerings available to residents and visitors. This development is also significant for the local economy, as it creates new jobs and aims to attract more patrons to the boardwalk, especially during the offseason. The restaurant's partnership with Pat LaFrieda's Prime 850 Club, which supplies top-tier beef, underscores its commitment to quality and luxury, potentially setting a new standard for fine dining in the area. Furthermore, the inclusion of 68 allocated parking spaces and valet service addresses a common challenge in Long Beach, enhancing accessibility and convenience for diners. This move could encourage other high-caliber businesses to consider establishing a presence in the area, fostering further economic growth and diversification.
What's Next?
Hacienda Tulum will officially open its doors on October 15, with reservations becoming available starting October 1. Following the main restaurant's launch, the speakeasy agave bar, Cemelle, is anticipated to open later this year, offering European-style tapas and a tasting menu in a 24-seat setting. The restaurant will operate Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. The bar will have extended hours on Friday and Saturday. The success of Hacienda Tulum could influence future developments in Long Beach, particularly regarding the types of businesses attracted to the boardwalk area. The recent change in the City of Long Beach code, allowing businesses on the boardwalk to serve alcohol, played a crucial role in enabling this establishment and may pave the way for similar ventures. Stakeholders will be observing the restaurant's reception and its impact on local tourism and dining trends.
Beyond the Headlines
The establishment of Hacienda Tulum reflects a broader trend of upscale dining experiences expanding into coastal and suburban areas, moving beyond traditional urban centers. This development highlights a growing demand for sophisticated culinary options outside of metropolitan hubs, driven by evolving consumer preferences and increased disposable income in certain demographics. The restaurant's emphasis on authentic Mexican cuisine, curated by a chef with a background in Mexican culinary traditions, also speaks to a cultural appreciation for diverse and refined international flavors. The integration of a speakeasy bar within the restaurant further illustrates a desire to offer multi-faceted entertainment and dining experiences. This trend could lead to a revitalization of boardwalk areas, transforming them into year-round destinations for fine dining and entertainment, rather than just seasonal attractions. The focus on addressing practical concerns like parking also indicates a strategic approach to customer experience, which is crucial for the long-term success of such ventures.
