What's Happening?
Japan, along with South Korea, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, is preparing a joint bid to host the 2046 FIFA World Cup. The Japan Football Association (JFA) announced the proposal, which leverages the countries' existing football
infrastructure and stadium capacities. The bid includes major stadiums like Malaysia's Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Indonesia's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Vietnam was excluded from the bid due to concerns over its sports infrastructure. The 2046 World Cup is expected to feature an expanded format with at least 48 teams.
