A recent survey sponsored by BARBRI, titled 'Envisioning Success: The 2026 Career Aspirations Survey,' reveals that soft skills such as emotional intelligence and collaboration are becoming increasingly vital in the legal profession due to the rise of AI
tools. The survey, which included over 300 participants from law students to partners, indicates that 77% of law students, 75% of associates, and 58% of partners believe AI has heightened the importance of these skills for career advancement. Despite this, many respondents feel their educational institutions and firms are not adequately supporting the development of these skills. Specifically, 52% of students rate their school's efforts as 'fair' or 'poor,' and 46% of associates feel similarly about their firms.
