position, based in Los Angeles, CA, is crucial for shaping and evolving Revel's brand identity across various mediums including digital, product, print, events, and physical merchandise. The role involves managing and mentoring a team of graphic designers, establishing creative workflows, and providing critical feedback. The Lead Graphic Designer will also be responsible for setting the visual direction for the company, translating complex technical concepts into compelling visuals, and collaborating with marketing, sales, product designers, and engineers. This position combines strategic brand leadership with hands-on design execution within a technical, high-growth startup environment, aiming to replace outdated, complex systems with intuitive, high-performance interfaces.
Why It's Important?
This hiring initiative by Revel underscores the increasing importance of strong brand identity and clear communication in the highly technical and specialized fields of aerospace, energy, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. By investing in a Lead Graphic Designer, Revel aims to enhance its ability to convey complex technical capabilities, such as real-time telemetry and test automation, through accessible and trustworthy visuals. This is vital for a company whose tools are designed to help engineers operate with precision and move faster. A unified and compelling visual language across all touchpoints—from web interfaces to physical hardware contexts—can significantly impact client trust and market perception. For the U.S. tech industry, this highlights a trend where even B2B SaaS companies in 'hard tech' sectors recognize the strategic value of design in differentiating themselves and attracting top talent and clients. The role's emphasis on simplifying complex technical ideas into elegant visuals is critical for broader adoption and understanding of advanced technological solutions.
What's Next?
The successful candidate for the Lead Graphic Designer position will be tasked with immediately taking charge of Revel's graphic design team, refining existing creative workflows, and establishing a clear visual direction for the company's brand. This will involve close collaboration with various departments, including marketing, sales, and product development, to ensure a cohesive brand presence across all platforms and materials. The new lead will also be instrumental in designing high-visibility assets and supporting physical brand extensions like apparel and event spaces, which are crucial for engaging a highly technical audience. Revel's continued growth and its focus on solving deeply technical problems with thoughtful design suggest that the brand's visual evolution will be an ongoing process, adapting to new technological advancements and market demands. The company's commitment to a strong engineering culture indicates that the design efforts will be deeply integrated with product functionality and user experience.
Beyond the Headlines
The recruitment of a Lead Graphic Designer by Revel points to a broader shift in how highly technical industries perceive and utilize design. Historically, sectors like aerospace and advanced manufacturing have prioritized functionality over aesthetics, but there's a growing recognition that intuitive, high-performance interfaces and a strong brand identity are crucial for competitive advantage. This move by Revel suggests an understanding that even in B2B contexts, user experience and brand perception play a significant role in adoption and success. The challenge for the incoming designer will be to bridge the gap between highly complex engineering concepts and visually engaging, easy-to-understand communication, which has ethical implications in ensuring transparency and clarity in critical applications. This trend could lead to a greater demand for designers with technical industry familiarity, fostering a new interdisciplinary approach where design thinking is integrated earlier into the development of mission-critical hardware and software.
