What's Happening?
Krakatoa Resources is progressing ahead of schedule with its drilling program at the Zopkhito Antimony-Gold Project in Georgia. The company has completed 17 drill holes as part of a resource definition program targeting a maiden JORC mineral resource.
The drilling includes both surface and underground operations, with assays being sent to laboratories in Türkiye for analysis. The project aims to convert existing foreign resource estimates into JORC-compliant resources, with a focus on defining quartz-stibnite vein systems and associated gold zones. Krakatoa holds an exclusive option to acquire up to an 80% interest in the project, which covers 1,779 hectares under a mining license valid until 2042.
Why It's Important?
The advancement of drilling at the Zopkhito Antimony-Gold Project is significant for Krakatoa Resources as it seeks to establish a JORC-compliant mineral resource. Achieving this compliance could enhance the project's value and attract further investment. The project is strategically important due to its potential to supply antimony, a critical mineral used in various industrial applications, including flame retardants and batteries. Additionally, the presence of gold adds further economic potential. Successful development of the project could contribute to the global supply of these minerals, supporting industries that rely on them.
What's Next?
Krakatoa Resources plans to continue its drilling program and commence metallurgical studies in the coming weeks. The company is also conducting environmental baseline studies and permitting activities in parallel. As the project progresses, Krakatoa will focus on converting the foreign resource estimate into a JORC-compliant resource, which could lead to further exploration and development activities. The company may also seek additional partnerships or investments to support the project's advancement. The outcome of the drilling and metallurgical studies will be crucial in determining the project's future direction.
