What's Happening?
A strategic partnership has been announced to develop a data center campus at the U.S. Department of Energy's Paducah Site in Western Kentucky. This $100 billion privately-funded project aims to repurpose
the former enrichment site into a hub for innovation and energy generation. The development will support up to 1.8 gigawatts of utility capacity and over 1.2 gigawatts of compute capacity, backed by up to 4.6 gigawatts of dedicated generation resources. The project is expected to create approximately 8,000 construction jobs and 600 full-time operations jobs. The initiative is part of a broader effort to transform legacy sites into energy and innovation hubs, with the goal of strengthening grid reliability and protecting ratepayers from additional costs.
