What's Happening?
Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) has announced the support for fractional GPU scheduling with Amazon EC2 G6f instances. This new feature allows users to run workloads on GPU partitions as small as one-eighth of an NVIDIA L4 Tensor Core GPU,
which includes 3 GB of GPU memory. The fractional GPU capability is designed to help users right-size their containers for tasks such as small-model AI inference, model experimentation, and graphics rendering, thereby reducing infrastructure costs compared to using a full GPU instance. This feature is available on both Amazon ECS Managed Instances and Amazon ECS on EC2, providing a fully managed experience that includes instance provisioning, scaling, patching, and lifecycle management. The service is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon EC2 G6f instances are offered.
