The historic Hotel Bossert in Brooklyn Heights, known for its glamorous past and A-list guests, is set to be transformed into The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights. This project, announced by Marriott International, Inc. and SomeraRoad, will introduce
the first branded residences to the borough. The landmarked Renaissance Revival building at 98 Montague Street will house 62 condominiums and a ground-floor restaurant operated by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. The building, originally opened in 1909 as an apartment hotel, was once dubbed the 'Waldorf-Astoria of Brooklyn' and was a popular spot for celebrities and notable New Yorkers, including the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Jehovah’s Witnesses owned the building from the 1980s until 2012, and SomeraRoad acquired it last year for $100 million with plans for residential conversion. The architecture, including its brick facade and limestone base, will be restored, and the Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved plans for a 15th-floor rooftop addition and other modifications.
