What's Happening?
Sky, a UK-based provider of pay-TV, broadband, and mobile services, has agreed to acquire the Media & Entertainment division of ITV for up to £1.6 billion ($2.1 billion). This acquisition will see Sky, owned by Comcast, maintaining ITV's existing channels
and the ITVX streaming platform as free-to-air services, in line with public service broadcasting commitments. ITV currently reaches approximately 40 million people weekly and serves over 16.5 million monthly digital users. The acquisition will make Sky's business account for about 20% of all in-home viewing in the UK, second only to the BBC. ITV will retain its ITV Studios arm, which is responsible for program production.
