The company has also expanded its leadership team and completed its first commercial yttrium metal production. Furthermore, USA Rare Earth has commissioned a hydrometallurgical demonstration facility in Colorado and selected South Carolina for a new manufacturing operation. The company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Serra Verde Group for approximately $2.8 billion, aiming to become a global leader in rare earth production.
Why It's Important?
These developments are significant as they position USA Rare Earth as a key player in the rare earth industry, crucial for U.S. energy, defense, and advanced manufacturing supply chains. The expansion in France and the U.S. aligns with government incentives and funding, highlighting the strategic importance of rare earth elements in national security and technological advancement. The acquisition of Serra Verde Group and the investment in Carester enhance the company's capabilities in rare earth processing and separation, reducing reliance on Asian markets. The company's initiatives are expected to create hundreds of jobs and drive significant capital investment, contributing to economic growth and technological innovation in the U.S. and Europe.
What's Next?
USA Rare Earth plans to complete the Round Top Definitive Feasibility Study by Q4 2026 and reach a magnet manufacturing capacity of 600 MTPA at its Stillwater Facility. The company will continue to evaluate its metal-making and alloy capacity to meet customer demand. The acquisition of Serra Verde is expected to close by the end of August 2026, with Thras Moraitis set to succeed Barbara Humpton as CEO.
