Matias Maccelli has signed a one-year contract with the New York Islanders. The 25-year-old forward previously played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he recorded 39 points in 71 games last season. Maccelli, originally a fourth-round pick by the Arizona
Coyotes in the 2019 NHL Draft, has accumulated 169 points over his career. In addition to Maccelli, the Islanders have also signed goalie Vitek Vanecek to a one-year deal. Vanecek, 30, had a challenging season with the Utah Mammoth, posting a 5-13-3 record.
Why It's Important?
These signings are significant for the New York Islanders as they aim to strengthen their roster for the upcoming NHL season. Maccelli's addition brings offensive potential, given his career-high performance with the Arizona Coyotes. Vanecek's experience as a goaltender could provide depth and stability in the net, which is crucial for the team's defensive strategy. These moves reflect the Islanders' commitment to enhancing their competitiveness in the league, potentially impacting their performance in the upcoming season.
