The WACKER Group is set to unveil ELASTOSIL LR 5471, a new non-postcure liquid silicone rubber featuring self-adhesive properties, at the FAKUMA international trade fair for plastics processing. This innovative product is designed to crosslink into an
elastomer with extremely low volatile content, making it suitable for sensitive applications in the food and medical industries, as well as infant care, often without the need for post-cure treatment. ELASTOSIL LR 5471 adheres effectively to various metals and thermoplastics, including PBT and PET, and offers excellent mechanical performance, with an elongation at break of up to 570 percent and a tear strength of 38 N/mm. The product complies with the recommendations of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) for silicones in food contact, even without thermal post-treatment, due to an additional processing step during manufacturing that ensures volatile content is less than 0.4 percent.
