What's Happening?
DRDGOLD has successfully commissioned a new elusion circuit and smelt house facility at its Far West Gold Recoveries site, marking a significant milestone in its Vision 2028 program. The facility, which was completed on time and within budget, poured
its first doré gold bar on July 14. This development is part of a broader initiative involving a R10-billion capital expenditure aimed at increasing plant throughput and extending the mine's life. The new facility is expected to boost monthly plant throughput to 1.2 million tons and contribute to a 16-year mine life. The project is a key component of DRDGOLD's strategy to optimize its asset portfolio and enhance operational resilience.
Why It's Important?
The commissioning of the new smelt house is a critical step in DRDGOLD's Vision 2028, which aims to significantly increase gold production and operational efficiency. By enhancing throughput capacity and extending the life of its operations, DRDGOLD is positioning itself for long-term growth and sustainability. This development not only strengthens the company's production capabilities but also demonstrates its commitment to reducing costs and improving energy security through strategic infrastructure investments. The successful implementation of this project could lead to increased shareholder value and a more robust financial performance.
What's Next?
As DRDGOLD continues to implement its Vision 2028 program, the focus will shift to commissioning additional infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Driefontein 2 plant and the completion of a 135 km pipeline network. These projects are designed to further increase throughput capacity and support long-term production goals. The company is also awaiting regulatory approvals for the Withok Tailings Storage Facility, which is expected to add significant deposition capacity and operational flexibility. These developments will be crucial in achieving the program's target of increasing annual gold production to six tonnes by 2028.
