What's Happening?
Pursuit Minerals, an Australian exploration and development company, has commenced diamond drilling at its Rio Grande Sur Lithium Project located in Argentina. The drilling is taking place at the DDH-3 site within the Mito tenement, targeting a large
conductive system identified through advanced controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics (CSAMT) reprocessing. This system is considered a high-priority lithium brine target, extending from approximately 250 meters to beyond 1 kilometer in depth. The drilling aims to support the growth of Pursuit's recently upgraded mineral resource estimate, which stands at 1.264 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) with a grade of 424 milligrams per liter of lithium. The resource includes an indicated resource of 705,000 tonnes at 443 mg/L Li and an inferred resource of 559,000 tonnes at 405 mg/L Li. The drilling at DDH-3 is expected to provide critical geological and hydrogeological data to enhance the understanding of the basin's architecture and lithium distribution.
Why It's Important?
The initiation of drilling at the Mito tenement is a significant step for Pursuit Minerals as it seeks to expand its lithium resources, which are crucial for the growing demand in the electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors. The successful identification and extraction of lithium brine could position Pursuit as a key player in the lithium market, potentially leading to increased investment and development opportunities. The data obtained from this drilling could also refine the company's resource estimates and improve the efficiency of future extraction processes. As the global demand for lithium continues to rise, driven by the transition to cleaner energy sources, Pursuit's efforts in Argentina could have substantial economic implications, both for the company and the broader lithium supply chain.
What's Next?
Following the completion of the DDH-3 drilling, Pursuit plans to move the drill rig to the recently acquired Demasía Rio Grande I tenement to evaluate the continuation of the lithium system. The company is also preparing to submit environmental documentation for the Rio Grande I and Demasía Rio Grande I tenements. Additionally, Pursuit is finalizing technical addendums to its 5,000 tonnes per annum lithium carbonate prefeasibility study. Development activities at Rio Grande Sur are ongoing, including the relocation of a pilot plant and the construction of evaporation test ponds. These steps are crucial for advancing the project towards production and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
