What's Happening?
Gujarat, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, has attracted over US$13.66 billion in investments within the semiconductor sector. This significant influx of capital positions Gujarat as a leading semiconductor hub in India, aligning
with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for India to become a reliable partner in the global semiconductor supply chain. Of the 12 semiconductor projects approved by the Government of India, six are located in Gujarat. Key hubs like Sanand and Dholera are seeing substantial development. Micron Technology's state-of-the-art ATMP facility for DRAM and NAND memory chips is already operational in Sanand. Additionally, OSAT facilities by CG Power, Renesas, Stars Microelectronics, and Kaynes Semicon are commercially operational in Sanand. Tata Electronics is constructing India's first commercial semiconductor fab in Dholera, which will produce CMOS logic chips using 110 to 28-nanometer process nodes. Dholera is also developing India's first commercial mini and micro-LED display fabrication and packaging unit by Crystal Matrix, and Suchi Semicon in Surat is expanding to a full-fledged OSAT facility.

Gujarat is expected to continue its aggressive development in the semiconductor sector, focusing on both attracting further investments and strengthening its skill ecosystem. This includes ongoing efforts to establish training centers, such as the ATMP training center by PDEU in collaboration with Micron Technology, and 'ChipIN' extension centers and Centers of Excellence at GTU for VLSI design and chip design processes. India's first UHP welding training program for the semiconductor industry has been launched at Dholera ITI, and a 'SAMARTH' center for advanced semiconductor manufacturing research and training has been established at IIT Gandhinagar. These initiatives aim to ensure a steady supply of skilled professionals to support the expanding industry. The state will likely continue to offer incentives and create a favorable regulatory environment to attract more global players, further solidifying its role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
