Lauderdale County, Mississippi, is experiencing a consistent influx of visitors, prompting Visit Meridian, the county's tourism arm, to develop a strategic plan for further growth. Berkeley Young of Young Strategies, tasked with creating the plan, noted
that the area already has a strong reputation for its arts and culture institutions, including the MSU Riley Center, Temple Theater, Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience, and the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian. A visitor survey highlighted the county's friendly residents, culinary scene, downtown charm, historical and cultural attractions, natural beauty, and ease of navigation as key draws. However, the survey also identified areas for improvement, such as limited late-night and Sunday dining options, an unusual road layout, safety concerns in some areas, limited family-friendly nightlife, cleanliness issues, and a lack of public transit or reliable rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, particularly between interstate hotels and downtown attractions. Hotel occupancy data indicates a high demand for rooms, with new hotels being built but not fast enough to meet the rising demand. From June 2024 to July 2025, Lauderdale County hotels were at least 60% full on 230 nights, representing 63% of the year, with even winter occupancy remaining strong at 56% in December 2024.
