What's Happening?
Innoviva Specialty Therapeutics has announced a distribution and licensing agreement with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories to expand access to XACDURO, an antibiotic for treating hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia, in select international
markets. The agreement covers South and Central America, the Caribbean, Russia, and CIS countries. XACDURO, approved by the FDA in 2023, targets infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii-calcoaceticus complex, a significant global health concern due to its resistance to treatment. Dr. Reddy’s will handle development, regulatory, and commercialization activities in the licensed territories.
Why It's Important?
This partnership addresses the critical need for effective treatments against resistant bacterial infections, particularly in regions with high rates of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter. By expanding access to XACDURO, the agreement aims to improve patient outcomes and support healthcare systems in managing difficult-to-treat infections. The collaboration also reflects a strategic effort to combat antimicrobial resistance, a growing public health threat worldwide. Innoviva's approach to leveraging regional expertise through Dr. Reddy’s could enhance the global reach and impact of XACDURO.
What's Next?
Following regional regulatory approvals, Dr. Reddy’s will begin the commercialization of XACDURO in the licensed territories. Innoviva will continue to focus on expanding its portfolio of critical care and infectious disease therapies. The success of this partnership could lead to further collaborations aimed at addressing antimicrobial resistance and improving access to essential medicines in underserved markets.
