What's Happening?
Austin Shakespeare is set to present the world premiere workshop of a new opera titled 'Verdict of Love.' This new work is inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's final novel, 'The Marble Faun,' and features a score by Jeff Britting and a libretto by Austin Shakespeare Artistic
Director Ann Ciccolella. The workshop will take place on September 11-12 at Austin Opera's Butler Performance Space. The opera is set in Belle Époque Rome and follows three young American artists who become entangled with a spirited young Italian, leading to a murder that alters their lives. The workshop will be presented in two parts: the first part will be sung-through with piano accompaniment, and the second will be a staged reading featuring actor Y.A. Oza. The cast includes Yuxin Liu (soprano), Paige Patrick (mezzo-soprano), Lucas Hickman (tenor), Zhanqi Wang (bass), and Piye Qin (baritone), with Vakhtang Zaalishvili serving as music director and pianist.
