What's Happening?
The CRAFTED on the Catwalk event is set to return, showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of designers from Manitoba and the Northern regions of Canada. This year's event partners with the popular series 'North of North' to highlight the stories
and artistry behind Northern fashion. The evening will feature a runway show with over 200 looks, celebrating the diverse cultural heritage and innovative designs from regions including Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, Nunatsiavut, and Nunavik. Attendees will enjoy a champagne reception, a 'Living Lookbook' exhibition, and a post-show meet-and-greet with designers and cast members from 'North of North'.
Why It's Important?
CRAFTED on the Catwalk serves as a platform for Northern designers to gain visibility and recognition in the broader fashion industry. By highlighting the unique cultural narratives and traditional craftsmanship of these regions, the event fosters appreciation and understanding of Northern Indigenous cultures. It also provides economic opportunities for designers and artisans, supporting the growth of the fashion industry in these areas. The collaboration with 'North of North' further amplifies these voices, bringing their stories to a wider audience through media exposure.
What's Next?
Following the event, the showcased designs will be available for purchase at the NORTH OF NORTH Market and the CRAFTED: Show + Sale. This provides an opportunity for attendees and the public to support Northern designers directly. The continued partnership with media outlets like APTN, CBC, and Netflix will likely enhance the reach and impact of Northern fashion, potentially leading to more collaborations and increased interest in Indigenous design.
