What's Happening?
D&D Pharmatech has announced promising results from a Phase 2 study of zabopegdutide (DD01) in patients with MASLD/MASH, published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology. The study demonstrated rapid, weight-independent improvements in liver fat,
liver stiffness, and fibrosis biomarkers within 12 weeks of treatment. These early improvements were predictive of significant histological benefits observed at 48 weeks. Zabopegdutide, a long-acting peptide, targets both GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, aiming to reduce liver fat and improve metabolic parameters. The study involved 67 overweight or obese patients, with results showing substantial reductions in liver fat and improvements in liver health, independent of weight loss.

The findings from this study highlight zabopegdutide's potential as a best-in-class therapy for MASH, offering a differentiated mechanism of action compared to conventional incretin therapies. The ability to improve liver health without significant weight loss is particularly noteworthy, as many existing treatments rely heavily on weight reduction to achieve liver benefits.
