What's Happening?
Calliope is a new local-first AI story-to-video studio that enables users to transform story ideas into video clips and ultimately finished films. The software operates entirely on the user's machine, utilizing FastAPI, SvelteKit, and ComfyUI. It guides
users through four stages: Story, Assets, Script, and Video. In the Story stage, users describe an idea, and Calliope drafts a storyline with beats, characters, and locations. The Assets stage allows for generating reference images for characters and locations using ComfyUI. The Script stage generates per-scene scripts, linking back to the defined characters and locations. Finally, the Video stage queues clip jobs on ComfyUI for each scene, saving the generated clips locally. Once clips are ready, the Film view uses ffmpeg to stitch them into a final movie with crossfades and loudness normalization. The system emphasizes local operation, with projects stored in SQLite and media in local folders, requiring no cloud services beyond an OpenAI-compatible LLM endpoint.
