What's Happening?
The Marquette County String Orchestra Society (MCSOS) is preparing to launch its second season, following a successful inaugural year. Under the leadership of directors Inga Banitt, Janis Shier Peterson, and Wendy Larson, the society has grown to nearly
thirty participants. The first season included an adult refresher workshop and several seasonal concerts, fostering skill development and camaraderie among musicians. The upcoming season, starting on August 22nd at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marquette, will welcome beginners who have never played a stringed instrument. Rehearsals will include a dedicated early block for foundational instruction, allowing new musicians to join the full orchestra when ready. The fall repertoire will feature a mix of classical and modern pieces, including works by Vivaldi, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Led Zeppelin.

The expansion of MCSOS to include beginners highlights the society's commitment to community engagement and lifelong learning. What's Next?
MCSOS is pursuing 501(c)(3) non-profit status to help offset operational expenses. Additionally, the society is organizing a 'Black and White' clothing swap fundraiser in November to assist local families in acquiring affordable performance attire.
