What's Happening?
Talking Heads are releasing a Super Deluxe Edition of their 1979 album 'Fear of Music' on November 13 via Rhino. This new edition will feature two complete, previously unreleased live concerts recorded during the 'Fear of Music' tour in 1979. One concert was
captured at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on August 24, 1979, and the other at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, on November 17, 1979. Only fragments of these performances had been previously released on the 1982 compilation 'The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads'. The box set also includes a new remaster of the original album, alternative versions, studio outtakes, and an unreleased track titled 'Dancing for Money'. A Blu-ray disc will offer Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround, and high-resolution stereo mixes, alongside rare footage from the band's appearance on the BBC program 'Old Grey Whistle Test'. The band has already shared a video for 'Life During Wartime' from these recordings. The physical Super Deluxe package will include a 60-page hardcover book with rare photos and liner notes by Will Hermes. Additionally, a dedicated Talking Heads channel on SiriusXM has been announced.
Why It's Important?
This release is significant for fans of Talking Heads and music history enthusiasts, offering a deeper dive into a pivotal period for the band. 'Fear of Music' marked a transition from their early art-rock sound to the more rhythmically complex style that would define their subsequent work, particularly 'Remain in Light'. The inclusion of two full, unreleased live concerts provides a rare opportunity to experience the band's performances during this formative era, offering insights into their live interpretations and evolving musical direction. The remastered album, along with outtakes and an unreleased track, enriches the understanding of their creative process. The Blu-ray's advanced audio mixes and rare video footage enhance the archival value, making this a comprehensive historical document. The dedicated SiriusXM channel further extends the band's legacy and accessibility to a broader audience, reinforcing their enduring influence on contemporary music.
What's Next?
