MP Materials, a leading producer of rare earth materials in the Western Hemisphere, has announced a multi-year agreement to supply gadolinium oxide to an unnamed U.S. aerospace and defense manufacturer. This contract is expected to be worth nine figures
and will involve MP Materials developing additional separation capacity at its Mountain Pass facility in California. Gadolinium oxide is a critical rare-earth material used in nuclear reactor shielding for submarines, as well as in infrared sensors and electronics. The company already operates the Mountain Pass Rare Earth Mine and Processing Facility in California and is expanding its manufacturing capabilities in Fort Worth and Northlake, Texas, to produce rare-earth metals and magnets.
