Omnigym, a Finnish gym equipment company, has installed an outdoor gym at a homeless shelter in Paris, France, to address inactivity and improve the physical and mental well-being of residents. The project aimed to test the impact of easy access to exercise
on this vulnerable population. After one month, anonymous data and self-assessments revealed significant positive outcomes. Eighty percent of respondents reported improved physical health, and 90% stated that the gym helped them meet or talk to other people. Residents also noted positive behavioral changes, such as reduced smoking. This initiative, dubbed 'The People’s Gym' by Omnigym CEO Kirsti Laasio, was a partnership with Emmaüs Solidarité, a French nonprofit supporting people experiencing homelessness, highlighting an often-overlooked need for accessible physical training.
