What's Happening?
Clearwater City Council has given final approvals for the $50 million EVO Family Entertainment Center, clearing the way for construction documents to advance. This approximately 83,000-square-foot destination will feature a premium cinema with seven auditoriums,
including the world's largest cinema screen (over 131 feet wide and seven stories tall), 16 bowling lanes, more than 100 arcade games, laser tag, climbing attractions, dining options, and private event spaces. The project required the vacation of Laura Street, Grove Street, and an intervening alley, along with the acquisition of a landlocked parcel, to create a contiguous development site with 400 parking spaces. TK Architects, specializing in entertainment architecture, is leading the architectural and engineering efforts, coordinating various specialists for the complex project.
Why It's Important?
This development is a significant milestone for downtown Clearwater, representing the largest redevelopment in over 50 years. The EVO Family Entertainment Center is poised to become a major entertainment anchor for the Cleveland Street district, attracting residents and tourists alike. This influx of visitors is expected to stimulate local economic growth, create jobs, and revitalize the downtown area. The project's scale and unique features, particularly the world's largest cinema screen, are anticipated to establish Clearwater as a premier entertainment destination, enhancing its appeal beyond its renowned beaches. This investment signals confidence in the city's future and its potential for urban renewal.
What's Next?
With city approvals secured, the project is now moving into the full construction-document phase, involving approximately $3.7 million in architectural and engineering work. This detailed planning will coordinate all aspects from structural engineering to cinema acoustics and projection, preparing the project for permitting and construction. Once construction documents are finalized, the project will proceed to the groundbreaking and building phases. The completion of the EVO Family Entertainment Center is expected to significantly transform the Cleveland Street district, with potential for further development and increased foot traffic in the area. The project is anticipated to become a major draw for the region.
