Esteban Gonzalez of UTRGV and Matilda Samervong of Lamar University have been named the Southland Conference's first Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week for the season. Gonzalez has had an impressive start to the fall season, achieving back-to-back
record-book performances. He posted a 69.5 scoring average over six rounds, finishing tied for 21st at the JT Poston Invitational with a three-round score of 209, and bettering that at the Bayou City Collegiate with a 208. Both scores rank among the lowest 54-hole individual scores in UTRGV program history. Samervong leads Lamar with a 74.5 average score and secured an individual title at the Lady Clerico with a total score of 217 (71-73-73), marking the first time a Lamar Cardinal has won an individual tournament title since 2023.
