What's Happening?
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS, its most luxurious SUV to date, alongside a new design studio in Beverly Hills, California. This studio is the first of its kind in the United States, allowing American customers to customize
their vehicles through the Manufaktur program, which has been available to European customers for years. The GLS 680 features a twin-turbo hybrid V8 engine, offering 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The SUV is designed with a four-passenger layout, providing enhanced rear legroom and luxury features such as heated, cooled, and massaging rear seats. The exterior includes two-tone paint options and 23-inch wheels with a floating hub. The studio in Los Angeles is part of a global network of 18 design spaces, offering a high level of customization typically associated with brands like Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the new customization studio represents Mercedes-Benz's strategic move to capture the growing demand for luxury SUVs in the U.S. market. By offering a high degree of personalization, Mercedes aims to attract affluent customers who seek unique and exclusive vehicles. This move could enhance the brand's competitive edge against other luxury automakers like Rolls-Royce and Bentley, which are known for their bespoke offerings. The expansion of the Manufaktur program to the U.S. also signifies Mercedes' commitment to strengthening its presence in one of the world's largest automotive markets.
What's Next?
The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS is expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships by late 2026 or early 2027, with prices starting well above $150,000. As the customization studio gains traction, it is anticipated that a significant portion of Mercedes' U.S. customers will opt for the Made to Measure program, further driving sales of high-end models. The success of this initiative could lead to the establishment of additional studios across the U.S., expanding the brand's reach and influence in the luxury automotive sector.
