What's Happening?
The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law is enhancing its business law program by offering students a variety of practical experiences and interdisciplinary studies. A key feature of the program is the Entrepreneurial Business Law Clinic, which
provides students with hands-on experience working with startups, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits on issues such as business formation, financing, intellectual property, and governance. The clinic has recently expanded to include a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiative, helping students and student-athletes understand NIL agreements and related legal matters. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for students to engage with corporate governance through the Board Fellows Program and the Corporate Fellowship Program, which places graduates in legal departments of major corporations.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of the business law program at Ohio State University Moritz College of Law is significant for students seeking careers in business law. By providing practical experience and exposure to real-world legal issues, the program prepares students for diverse roles in the legal and business sectors. The inclusion of the NIL initiative is particularly relevant given the growing importance of NIL rights in collegiate athletics, offering students a chance to engage with cutting-edge legal issues. These opportunities enhance the employability of graduates and strengthen the college's reputation as a leader in business law education.
What's Next?
As the program continues to evolve, students can expect further integration of interdisciplinary studies and practical experiences. The success of the NIL initiative may lead to additional programs focused on emerging legal issues in sports and entertainment. The college may also expand its partnerships with corporations and legal firms, providing more fellowship and externship opportunities for students. These developments will likely attract more students to the program and enhance its standing in the legal education community.
