Proofing Station, a Chicago-based charitable investment fund, has made its first investments in Wisconsin, totaling $2.1 million, to support sustainable farming and strengthen the regional food system. The investments are directed towards two agricultural
businesses: Canopy Farm Management and Meadowlark Organics. Canopy Farm Management, operating in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and Champaign, Illinois, will receive $1.1 million through a 10-year, low-interest working capital loan. This funding will help expand its commercial agroforestry work, develop partnerships, and build infrastructure for managing more projects across the Midwest. Meadowlark Organics, a 1,200-acre certified organic farm and stone mill near Ridgeway, will receive $1 million through three loans over eight years. This investment will facilitate the construction of new grain handling and cold storage facilities, expand milling capacity, and assist in accessing a $1.2 million USDA Regional Food Systems Infrastructure grant, along with bridge financing and debt refinancing.
