What's Happening?
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has successfully conducted real-value testing as part of Project Agorá, a collaborative initiative involving 28 financial institutions and central banks from Asia, Europe, and North America. The project aims
to evaluate the feasibility of a multi-currency shared programmable platform for wholesale cross-border payments. During the testing phase, transactions totaling approximately CHF 800,000 ($988.3k) were completed across 17 scenarios, demonstrating the platform's capability to handle various payment use cases, including corporate and interbank transactions. The testing highlighted the benefits of tokenization and atomic settlement, such as faster transaction times and enhanced transparency, with an average settlement time of 80 seconds.
