What's Happening?
The Lindenwood Athletics Department has announced a partnership with the Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) to provide complimentary tickets to Lindenwood football, hockey, and basketball events during the 2026-27 season. This initiative aims to give
back to active duty military personnel, veterans of all eras, and first responders, including current and retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, and 911 Dispatchers. Michael A Focareto III, Vet Tix Founder, CEO, and U.S. Navy veteran, expressed honor and excitement for the partnership, highlighting that it will enable many local veterans, service members, first responders, and their families to create memorable experiences at Lindenwood University's athletic events. Senior Associate Athletics Director Jameson Adams also conveyed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the department's desire to acknowledge and support those who have significantly contributed through their service. Tickets can be claimed by eligible individuals by creating an account and verifying their service or affiliation through ID.me on www.VetTix.org. Additionally, season ticket holders who cannot use their tickets for certain home events have the option to donate them to Vet Tix by transferring them to donate@vettix.org.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it directly benefits a crucial segment of the U.S. population: military members, veterans, and first responders, along with their families. By providing free access to sporting events, Lindenwood Athletics and Vet Tix are contributing to the well-being and community engagement of these individuals. Vet Tix, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has a proven track record, having provided over 40 million free event tickets to more than 2.8 million members since 2008. The organization's 1st Tix program, launched in 2018, extends similar benefits to first responders. These events are vital for reducing stress, strengthening family bonds, building lasting memories, and fostering continued engagement with American life and local communities for service members, veterans, and first responders. The initiative also sets a positive precedent for other athletic departments and organizations to consider similar community outreach programs, demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility and gratitude towards those who serve.
What's Next?
Eligible active duty personnel, veterans, and first responders can begin creating accounts on www.VetTix.org to claim complimentary tickets for Lindenwood football, hockey, and basketball events during the 2026-27 season. The partnership will continue to facilitate access to these events, allowing beneficiaries to attend games and create positive experiences. Lindenwood Athletics will likely continue to promote this program to ensure maximum participation from the target groups. Season ticket holders will also have ongoing opportunities to donate unused tickets, further expanding the pool of available tickets for Vet Tix and 1st Tix members. The success of this partnership could potentially inspire other universities and sports organizations across the U.S. to establish similar collaborations, broadening the reach of such beneficial programs to more military and first responder communities nationwide.
Beyond the Headlines
Beyond the immediate benefit of free tickets, this partnership underscores a broader societal recognition of the sacrifices made by military personnel, veterans, and first responders. It highlights the role that sports and community events can play in fostering a sense of belonging and appreciation for these groups. The initiative also subtly promotes civic engagement and patriotism by integrating these individuals into local community activities. From an ethical standpoint, it reflects a commitment to corporate social responsibility, demonstrating that institutions like Lindenwood University are willing to leverage their resources for public good. This model of collaboration between athletic organizations and non-profits like Vet Tix could serve as a blueprint for addressing other social needs, showcasing how accessible entertainment can contribute to mental well-being and social reintegration for those who have served. It also reinforces the idea that supporting those who protect and serve extends beyond traditional benefits to include opportunities for leisure and family bonding.
