What's Happening?
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of a new Crowne Plaza hotel in Vienna, set to open in the Margareten district by late Q3 2026. This development marks the return of the Crowne Plaza brand to Austria, in partnership with FEURING Asset Management
GmbH. The hotel will feature 195 guestrooms, including 22 suites, and will offer amenities such as an Austrian-inspired restaurant, a bar, a rooftop fitness terrace, and a wellness area. The design, inspired by the Austrian National Library, will be crafted by David Chipperfield. The hotel will also hold EU Eco- and Austrian Environment Label certifications. This opening will increase IHG's presence in Austria to 20 hotels, with 11 located in Vienna.
Why It's Important?
The opening of the Crowne Plaza Vienna is significant for IHG Hotels & Resorts as it strengthens their foothold in the European market, particularly in Austria. Vienna's tourism industry, which recorded over 20 million overnight stays in 2025, stands to benefit from the increased accommodation capacity. The hotel's eco-friendly certifications align with growing consumer demand for sustainable travel options. Additionally, the strategic location between the Opera House and Schönbrunn Palace, with access to public transportation, positions the hotel as a convenient choice for both business and leisure travelers.
