What's Happening?
Emily Risner and Ross Jones, both educators, are pursuing an M.A. in Spanish at Saint Louis University-Madrid. The program combines rigorous academic study with cultural immersion, allowing them to enhance their language skills and understanding of Hispanic
cultures. This experience is expected to enrich their teaching careers in the U.S. by providing new perspectives and methodologies. The program is structured to accommodate their teaching schedules, enabling them to study during the summers.
Why It's Important?
This program highlights the importance of cultural immersion in professional development, particularly for educators. By improving their language proficiency and cultural understanding, teachers like Risner and Jones can offer more comprehensive and engaging language education to their students. This not only benefits the educators' careers but also enhances the learning experiences of their students, fostering a deeper appreciation for diverse cultures. Such programs can serve as a model for other educational institutions aiming to integrate cultural immersion into their curricula.
