What's Happening?
Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, celebrated the grand opening of KC Current Studios, a new media facility for the NWSL's Kansas City Current, which she co-owns. The studio includes podcast recording and broadcasting
capabilities, marking a significant development for the team. While Patrick Mahomes is at training camp in Missouri, Brittany attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Kansas City. The KC Current, valued at $325 million, is the second most valuable team in the NWSL. The team continues to innovate, having previously opened CPKC Stadium, the first stadium built specifically for a women's professional sports team.
Why It's Important?
The launch of KC Current Studios represents a significant step forward in promoting women's sports and enhancing media coverage. By providing a dedicated space for storytelling and broadcasting, the studio aims to elevate the visibility of women's sports and highlight the achievements of female athletes. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to increase investment and support for women's sports, which can lead to greater opportunities and recognition for female athletes. The KC Current's valuation and infrastructure investments reflect the growing commercial potential of women's sports, encouraging further development and engagement from fans and sponsors.
