What's Happening?
ThriftBooks has launched the LibraryAdvantage program, offering libraries a new model for ordering books, including new releases and out-of-print editions. The program was developed in response to the collapse of wholesaler Baker & Taylor, providing libraries with
Net-30 invoicing, MARC records, and discounts. ThriftBooks aims to support libraries by offering a book buyback program and the ability to order both new and used books. The program will be showcased at the American Library Association's annual conference.
Why It's Important?
The launch of LibraryAdvantage addresses a critical need for libraries to access a wide range of books following the collapse of a major wholesaler. By providing flexible ordering options and financial incentives, ThriftBooks supports libraries in managing their collections and budgets effectively. This initiative highlights the importance of innovative solutions in the book industry to ensure libraries can continue to serve their communities. The program's success could encourage other companies to develop similar offerings, enhancing the resilience of library services.
