Ahmad Joudeh, a Syrian-Palestinian ballet dancer, has found a new home in San Diego after enduring a traumatic childhood, the Syrian civil war, and constant threats from ISIS. Born stateless in a Palestinian refugee camp in Damascus, Syria, Joudeh's passion
for dance emerged at a young age, despite his father's disapproval. He secretly pursued ballet, eventually becoming a principal dancer in Syria. During the war, ISIS extremists targeted him due to his public performances, sending death threats and posting his pictures online. Joudeh, who has a 'Dance or die' tattoo on his neck, continued to dance, even teaching children in SOS Children's Villages amidst the threats. His journey led him to Amsterdam, where the Dutch National Ballet helped him, and ultimately to San Diego, following his heart and finding an artistic home with the Golden State Ballet.
